The Rhythm of Our Community

Time at The Grove unfolds organically, guided by children’s interests rather than a fixed schedule.

-
move freely through the space
-
return to materials again and again
-
observe before joining
-
play quietly alongside others
-
participate in shared moments when it feels right
Each gathering looks a little different, shaped by the children, the materials, and the moment.

Daily Care & Practical Details

Beginning and Ending Our Time
The beginning and ending of our gatherings are unhurried parts of our routine. Children arrive at their own pace, take time to store their belongings, and are welcomed into the space with care. They are invited to notice where they feel drawn and choose how they would like to begin their exploration, honoring their curiosity and readiness.

Before ending our time together, adults gently return materials to their places, trusting that children learn responsibility through observation, encouragement, and time. Children are welcome to join in when it feels right for them. As our time together comes to a close, they may choose to listen to a short song or story, or let us know when they are ready to go.

Shoes & Personal Belongings
When entering the space, we invite families to remove shoes as a way of caring for the environment and supporting comfortable movement. Children may wear socks or move barefoot, allowing them to feel steady, relaxed, and at ease in their bodies. Personal belongings are kept simple and stored in a designated area, helping the space remain open, calm, and welcoming for play.

Materials & Clothing
Our days often include paint, water, clay, and other sensory materials. Children are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing that can get messy, allowing them to explore freely and without hesitation. When clothing supports the work, children are able to engage more fully in their play and discovery.

Snack
A self-serve snack table is available throughout the gathering. Children choose when to eat, supporting independence and self-regulation. Families are invited to provide a simple, nut-free snack for their child. The Grove offers shared, child-appropriate materials such as ceramic plates, open cups, and a small pitcher, supporting the practice of practical life skills. A refrigerator is also available for items that need to be kept cool.

For the safety and well being of the children please avoid:
nuts, sticky foods, choking hazards, sugary treats, and drinks other than water

Care of the Environment
Adults model care of the environment by gently returning materials at the end of our time together. Children are invited, but never required to join. Responsibility grows through observation, trust, and time.

Group Moments
At the end of each visit, we offer a brief closing circle that may include a song, story, or shared reflection. Participation is always optional and children may join, observe nearby, or leave with their caregiver if they choose. This moment is intended as a gentle way to mark our time together, honoring each child’s individual capacity before we say goodbye.
